Prerequisites

  • BizGuardian Firewall/VPN Appliance requires a separate dedicated Pentium PC for greater security and performance which must be at least 233Mhz or faster, with a minimum of 64 Meg of memory and two PCI network cards, 500 MB IDE Hard drive and CD-Rom. (Keyboard and Monitor are only required during the installation.)
  • A HUB to connect to Firewalls private network card with the rest of your local network client PCs. See diagram below:

Installation Steps:
Step 1
» Step 1: Create Installation Disks

Download the BizGuardian CDROM .iso file and burn to a CDRom.

Or download floppy creator program (deperciated only for Version 3.6 or lower) which will create the two installation floppies for you. Run this program from any windows based PC to create the two Floppies used for the installation. (Note: These disks contain UNIX file system and are not readable on a Windows PC once created).

Step 2
» Step 2: Install Bizguardian Software

Boot the CDRom created in step one.

Or boot the first floppy in the PC you will use as the firewall. Put in the 2nd floppy when asked, the network cards are then automatically configured.

Note: For maximum compatibility with all disk drives, it is recommended to set your BIOS setting Disk Access Mode to LBA.

Step 3
» Step 3: Configurate Network Settings
Answer a couple of questions about your Internet connection. You will need to know whether you have a Dynamic or Static IP Address. If Static you will need to supply the information from your ISP regarding Address, Gateway and Name servers. If you have a Dynamic address (most Cable or DSL home services) then no further information is required as the configuration will be automatic.

Step 4
» Step 4: Finalize Software Installation
At this point the Firewall will attempt to recognize which network card is connected to the internet, this may take a minute or two. Once established the remainder of the software (8MB) is downloaded from the BizGuardian Website and installed onto the hard drive. (Previous contents of the hard drive are erased).

Step 5
» Step 5: Finalize Network Settings
Once the software has downloaded, the installation is complete in a couple of minutes. Important: The last screen of the installation will explain the default local network settings and the User ID and Password you will require to manage the Firewall. Note this information, and then remove the floppies from the firewall and allow it to restart.

Step 6
» Step 6: Configure Client PCs
The easiest way to configure a Client PC is to ensure that it is configured for DHCP which will allow it to obtain an automatic TCP/IP address provided by the firewall. If you are using a Windows PC, simply open the network properties icon under the control panel, select TCP/IP Properties and ensure "Obtain IP Address automatically" is checked. Then reboot the client PC.

Step 7
» Step 7: Manage the Firewall
You should now be able to surf the Internet from the client PC. You can manage the firewall via your web Browser using Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Just connect your browser to the address that was provided on the last screen of the setup process.

» Surf Safely! You are ready to go.
